  • Research summary

A system has been developed, based on the patients' NHS unique identifier, which allows the extraction of details of respiratory medication dispensed within primary care for the previous 12 months for patients attending a severe asthma clinic. This data is extracted from the national NHS prescription database (PIS) and includes prednisolone and itraconazole where relevant.
This information is used by one respiratory consultant (Dr Bucknall) caring for people with asthma that is difficult to treat within a clinic setting. The purpose of this evaluation is to as patients, Dr Bucknall and other respiratory consultants what they think about this system and if they think it would be useful in other settings.
