Research summary
This will be a prospective, confirmatory study of a biomarker for the detection of bowel cancer. This is a blood based biomarker, based on a panel of 30 metabolites has been developed by our commercial partner, UDX (Universal diagnostics). The aim of this work is to determine if a retrospective analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of this biomarker can be reproduced in a prospective cohort. This study will determine the optimal sampling methodology, patient recruitment protocol, power and study design for a larger prospective trial. It will also perform discovery science by analysing bile acid and serum lipid metabolism in a cohort of patients with colorectal cancer. The analysis will be peformed in conjunction with the National Phenome Centre at Imperial College London.
