Research summary
Sarcoidosis is a condition that causes damage to organs throughout the body. For all but the most severely affected patients, the condition does not shorten life expectancy but can severely impact quality of life. Being able to measure quality of life is therefore very important. Various measures are used in different studies of patients with sarcoidosis. There is no data comparing existing and commonly used measurements of health status and quality of life (questionnaires like the EQ-5D and SF-36), therefore it is difficult to directly compare the measurements from different studies. In this study we want to ask a cohort of patients with sarcoidosis to answer five commonly used questionnaires looking at different aspects of quality of life. All patients with the condition who have mental capacity and do not have other major illness or chronic medical conditions. Participants will be patients with sarcoidosis in the East of England; patients will be drawn from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, or alternatively will be approached if they attend local patient support/study days. The study will be open for approximately six months and participants will only be asked to complete the questionnaires once.
