    This study aims to investigate whether a chemical called malondialdehyde (MDA), which is linked to oxidative stress, can help identify early signs of heart disease in people with dyslipidaemia, a condition where there are unhealthy levels of fats, such as cholesterol and triglycerides, in the blood. Oxidative stress occurs when the body has more harmful molecules (called free radicals) than it can remove, which can damage cells and blood vessels and increase the risk of heart disease.

    The study will look at how MDA levels relate to common blood fats such as LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol), total cholesterol, and triglycerides. It will help determine whether MDA could act as an early warning marker for heart disease risk.

    This research is important to the public because early detection of heart disease risk allows for quicker intervention and better long-term health outcomes. If MDA proves to be a reliable marker, it could be included in routine tests to help prevent heart attacks and strokes in at-risk patients.

    Participants will include adults diagnosed with dyslipidaemia who attend the Lipid Clinic at Central Middlesex Hospital, London (Park Royal), and a comparison group of healthy volunteers from the University of Westminster. The study will run for approximately 12 months.

    Participation involves a simple blood test, taken at the same time as any routine blood tests already being done, so it will not require extra visits or procedures for patients.

    This study could support better screening and prevention strategies for cardiovascular disease, helping clinicians to identify and support high-risk individuals earlier and more effectively.
