Research summary
Malaria during pregnancy poses significant health risks to both mothers and their offspring. Although extensive global research underscores these risks, there is a notable lack of data on pregnant women diagnosed with malaria in the UK or other non-endemic regions.
Our observational descriptive multisite study aims to retrospectively analyse the characteristics and outcomes of imported malaria in pregnancy in UK healthcare centres. Understanding the epidemiology, clinical presentations, and complications of malaria during pregnancy is crucial for formulating hypotheses for future research and especially for improving clinical management in these settings.
