Research summary
Intolerance of uncertainty has been identified as a transdiagnostic feature of a variety of anxiety disorders which is among the most common mental health problems. Lifetime prevalence of anxiety disorder is know to be about 28.8% with onset usually in childhood. We plan to undertake a single case experimental design study on anxious adolescents with a newly adapted intervention which targets intolerance of uncertainty. This is based on a cognitive behavioural therapy technique and has been delivered to both autistic adults and adolescents using similar design and has been found to be acceptable and feasible. The aim of the present study is to make it suitable for use in anxious adolescents. This would take place within an NHS service within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear in the North East of England. The study method would be a single case experimental design recruiting 4 participants in total.
