Research summary
This study is looking at how well the Maestro Surgical System works during keyhole (laparoscopic) abdominal surgeries at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
The Maestro System helps the surgeon by holding the camera and surgical tools steady during the operation. It can be stopped or switched back to normal surgery at any time. This system has already been used safely in over 1,500 surgeries in hospitals in the US, France, and Belgium. The goal is to see how the system performs in different types of surgery (simple or complex, planned or emergency) in the UK. About 100 adult patients will take part.
The Maestro System is designed to be cheaper and easier to use than other robotic systems, while still helping surgeons do high-quality surgery. It fits into existing NHS operating rooms, needs little training, and doesn’t require a surgical assistant, which helps save money. It also has a small environmental impact.
By running this study, the hospital hopes to collect important information that could help bring this new technology into more NHS hospitals in the future.REC name
