  • Research summary

Seven-day-a-week Specialist Palliative Care services have been identified as important. Macmillan Cancer Support are working to change how Specialist Palliative Care is delivered in two pilot sites in Greater Manchester. This 24-month study will explore the effectiveness and effect of the 7-day Macmillan specialist palliative care advice and assessment programme at the two sites. This It will assess the outcomes of implementing the 7-day palliative care models within two pilot sites. It will also seek to understand the experiences of and satisfaction with end-of-life care within the service, and the impact of the 7-day models on patients and carers, on staff working within the service, and on the wider system. Finally it will identify outcomes associated with cost-efficiencies, any barriers and enablers to successful implementation of the service, and its transferability to other localities.
