Research summary
Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells for which new treatments are required. Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell found in the bone marrow, a jelly like substance within the long bones of the body. We aim to identify new treatments for myeloma by testing new compounds that are being developed. These compounds will be tested on cells taken from the surplus material when patients have a sample of their bone marrow taken as part of their diagnosis or treatment. Experiments will be performed to understand the mechanisms by which the compounds work and identify those that are most likely to be beneficial to patients if developed into drugs.
