Research summary
Given the literature gap and the need and interest for education expressed by PCOS women attending our PCOS clinic or participating in our PCOS research (Academic Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism Unit; Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust), we aim to develop and pilot an evidence-based structured education programme for women with PCOS, entitled “Living with PCOS”. More specifically, the development phase will involve a user perspective survey, the production of a written curriculum based on the feedback from this survey, written presentation material for the educational sessions, and written content for training the educators who will deliver the programme, as well as training of the educators.
The implementation phase
The purpose of the implementation phase is to pilot an evidence-based structured education programme developed to target the needs of women with PCOS. We aim to deliver the programme and assess the procedure, but also assess the knowledge/perspectives of participants with regards to PCOS areas before and after the completion of the programme. Participants are required to sign an informed consent prior to any involvement in the study. There are no risks anticipated for anyone who participates in the research study. However, in the unlikely event that a participant experiences distress as a result of her participation in the educational programme, we will contact her G.P. to request relevant support.REC name
