Research summary
Researchers in Sheffield are world leaders in the development of MRI scanning to image the heart and lungs. These scans can provide unique information about how blood and air moves in the lungs, how the heart works, and therefore help us manage patients with a variety of lung diseases. The NIHR has provided funding to Prof Jim Wild to allow these scans to be used for clinical imaging, and we are starting to request them to help in the management of a range of heart and lung diseases. Because the scans are new, we are also learning as we go along about how best to use them, and to interpret them. We would therefore like to collect data on patients as we go along, to allow us to learn from the clinical work we're doing, and to publish the results for others to benefit from our experience.
