  • Research summary

The current study is a feasibility study and aims to specifically address the unanswered methodological design questions that need to be addressed in the design of the larger temporal pattern study with outcomes. This study will use a quantitative approach to collecting data through reviewing patient's medical notes and taking bioimpedance measures. In addition, the study questions are related to feasibility and patient acceptability outcomes (recruitment rate, data quality, study completion, patient acceptance) and feasibility-related analyses between 3-12hrs of patient admission.

It is anticipated to gain insight into the following feasibility study objectives:
    1. Determine whether clinical demographics and bioimpedance measures can be captured between 3-12 hrs of patient admission.
    2. Determine the participant recruitment rate and explore the feasibility and acceptability of performing bioimpedance analysis on older adults
    3. Determine the likely range of measured bioimpedance values and effect size/variance
    4. Assess the acceptability of the study procedures to both participants and Southampton General Hospital (SGH)
    5. Assess the barriers to recruitment and how might these be overcome from the perspective of patients
