  • Data collection arrangements

The database will hold the data of patients who have been referred to the Lothian Older People's Psychology Service
(LOPPS) for neuropsychological assessment, following having identified concerns/ changes in their functioning. All
individuals will be over the age of 55 years, with concerns/ changes in their cognitive functioning being identified by
either themselves or a close relative/friend, or a medical practitioner.
Following testing and gaining informed consent, the database would hold each individual's raw scores and
standardised scores, neuropsychological profile reported and any resultant diagnosis, demographic and social
information(e.g. gender, age, SMID), and related clinical information.

  • Research programme

The proposed database is to allow us to collect and store data that is routinely collected from individuals referred into the service to be used in a range of future research projects (e.g. for developing representative normative data, and for research projects undertaken by trainee clinical psychologists as part of their doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology). This would help inform patient assessment, diagnosis and care within Lothian Older People's Psychology Service, and help to develop future clinical procedures, assessments and treatments. This data will be held within the service (LOPPS) and may be shared with relevant parties within NHS Scotland and the University of Edinburgh for research purposes only. Any data shared with researchers external to NHS Lothian will be completely anonymous, containing no personal details (names, DoBs etc). Data will only be shared with these parties upon receiving appropriate regulatory approval from the Research Ethics Committee and upon notifying the necessary Research and Development team members where appropriate. This will be clearly detailed within both the Participant Information Sheet and the database consent form.
