Research summary
Very little is known overall about the profile of children and young people (CYP) referred to Gender Identity Development services. We propose undertaking a retrospective secondary analysis of clinic databases in the UK and the Netherlands to better understand the profile and pattern of referrals of CYP in both countries. Data pertaining to behavioural and emotional functioning, gender identity, autism spectrum disorder traits, as well as demographic/background information and frequency/attendance of appointments will be analysed for all CYP aged 3-13 years who attended either service between 2009-2017. In doing so, we aim to develop a greater understanding of the similarities and individual differences within this population so that more tailored assessment and support can be developed.
