Research summary
The proposed study aims to expand on previous research by exploring the experiences of children living with a diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder within a psychological framework, specifically looking at their experiences in relation to; impact on sense of self, relationships with others and experience of accessing and engaging with help. This qualitative study will use semi-structured interviews, which will then be analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. This qualitative study will importantly allow for the child’s voice to be heard whilst adding to our knowledge and understanding of childhood OCD. This will then be used to inform service design with regards to access to services, assessment and intervention as well as be considered with regards to the long term clinical implications. This research is funded by the Coventry University and will be conducted by a Trainee Clinical Psychologist.
