Research summary
Living with and beyond cancer will enable an in depth insight into cancer survivors views on diet and the impact upon their health. Dietary alterations post diagnosis can help with not only the recurrence of cancer but also the prevention of other co-morbidities such as cardio-vascular disease. It has been highlighted that patient knowledge is currently sought from internet sources, with a lack of knowledge coming from healthcare professionals.
This study aims to gain an insight into how patients believe diet has impacted their cancer diagnosis and journey. It will also help recognise factors which need to be addressed to assist the patient in their diagnosis and recovery relating to cancer and diet. Through questioning in semi-structured interviews it is hoped that we will gain a information on cancer survivors level of knowledge regarding cancer prevention and diet and understand where patients currently get their information from regarding diet during and post recovery. This information can then be used to begin to generate a healthcare intervention for those patients e.g. provision of information, in line with the MRC Framework on the development of complex healthcare interventions.
