Research summary
This project aims to explain the phenomenon of living alone with early stage dementia. The needs of people living alone with dementia are different from those who live with others and they are a very under-researched population; this research will seek to understand how people live alone with dementia in order to better inform services that support people who live alone with the diagnosis.
People who live alone with dementia and informants who know them well will be recruited through gatekeepers from local support groups, charity-run groups and NHS services. In one-to-one intensive interviews, participants will be asked about their views and experiences of living alone with dementia.
The study will take a qualitative approach, using a grounded theory research design with the aim of producing a data-driven model or theory that answers the question "How do people live alone with dementia?".
