Research summary
Person Centred Care is a common term found in current healthcare. It is seen by some, to support high quality healthcare delivery, by putting the person receiving care at the centre of all healthcare interactions. However, at times there has been the belief that healthcare delivery, particularly involving older people when they are in acute hospital care, could be better. The aim of this study is to give a voice to the people in acute hospital care: older people, their families and members of staff delivering care to find out more about their experiences of person centred care. Older people, their families and members of hospital staff will be asked to keep a diary of either receiving or giving care; then will be asked to attend an interview about their care. The researcher aims to make sense of how it is to experience person centred care from the older person, their family and staff perspectives. The findings from the research could help further develop the understanding of person centred care practices for older people in acute hospital care. The findings of the research will be shared with participants, hospital staff and used in healthcare education.
