Research summary
We aim to run a randomised control trial to test the Lister Care smartphone application. This is an application that will be used by surgical patients in the days or weeks prior to their surgery. Through the application patients will have information on their condition/procedure, details on the surgery's date and place, updates while the theatre list is running and prompts for actions such as "to be ready" to be taken to theatre. We will compare the use of this application to the current care of adult plastic surgery cases at the Leicester Royal Infirmary for a period of approximately 6 - 10 weeks. Each patient will complete a patient satisfaction survey after they have had their surgery to assess the effect of the application. We will not interfere with the surgical management of the patient, but will aim to improve communication between patients and healthcare professionals through the Lister Care application.
