Research summary
Lifestyle in Later Life
We know there are large differences in lifestyle among older people. We want to find out what influences the choices older people make about the way they eat and look after their health. We also want to find out what effect these choices have on the health of individuals.
We will ask patients who use Medicine for Older People services in Southampton to take part in our study. They will be visited at home by a researcher who will ask questions about things that may affect their lifestyle. They will also have their weight, grip strength and walking speed measured. The visit will last approximately one and a half hours. The participants will receive another visit one year after the initial home visit where the questions and measurements will be repeated. Information about the health of the participants will be collected from their hospital records so that we can examine the effect of lifestyle on health.
The study will last for approximately four years.REC name
