Research summary
The impact of diet and exercise on health is well recognised. However the traditional methods of measuring what and individual eats and drinks and how much they exercise by asking them to complete diaries are often inaccurate. One way round this would be to link the data generated by supermarket loyalty schemes and fitness apps with individuals’ health records. This obviously can only be done will the fully informed consent of those involved. This study aims to find out whether people would be willing to consent to this linkage. \nTo do this a wide cross section of the population will be asked to complete a very brief questionnaire asking them whether they would be agreeable to the linking of these records and what factors could influence this decision. The participants will be recruited from outpatient clinics at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, a single GP practice, Leeds city council’s mailing list and via Leeds institute for Data Analytics’ web site. \n
