Research summary
We are investigating the impact of childhood stressors and recent negative life events on patients with Fibromyalgia. Somatic symptom disorders, such as Fibromyalgia, are highly prevalent in the general health practice. Although much research has been done, their aetiology is not yet clearly known. Fibromyalgia is considered to be a stress disorder; however, no specific life events have been identified as possible predictors of its onset. We will use self-report questionnaires and a semi-structured interview in order to gain an understanding of patients' life experiences and perspectives. The information gained during the study and will provide a better understanding about the causes of Fibromyalgia.
