Research summary
The MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing at UCL (LHA) hosts three cohorts: the MRC National Survey of Health and Development (NSHD), Delirium and Population Health Informatics Cohort (DELPHIC; herein, known locally as the Long-term Information Knowledge for Ageing; LINKAGE) ) and The Southall And Brent REvisited Study (SABRE). We are planning a clinic based data collection that will build on the complementary strengths of these the well-established NSHD (73 years of life course data in a healthy population), will capitalise on the complementary strengths of DELPHIC and the tri-ethnic older age SABRE cohort. We will also include another community based participants and healthy volunteers recruited by advertisement.
The aims of the study are to investigate the life course determinants of cardiovascular, metabolic and mental ageing. The specialised investigations will focus on cardiometabolic health, mental ageing, and physiological resilience.
Participants will attend for a clinic visit at the Bloomsbury Centre for Clinical Phenotyping (BCCP) University College London for a range of tests that measure key aspects of function in the static and dynamic state. They will also be fitted with wearable devices that monitor key measures of function for a week. Results of this study will be used to devise interventions intended to maintain healthy function in life with potential public health benefits for the general population.
