  • Data collection arrangements

    All samples are stored at HTA licensed premises of the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in compliance with the licensing provisions of the Human Tissue Act (2004) and in accordance with joint University/Trust policies which are fully compliant with the regulatory authorities for biobanking and information security. Governance of the Leeds Neuropathology Research Tissue Bank is enforced by the Bank’s Research Tissue Bank Management Committee which oversees all aspects of the tissue bank, ensuring full compliance with the law, regulatory constraints, and ethics committee approvals.
    Fluid and tissue samples are collected and processed by appropriately trained research staff, in dedicated sample processing labs.
    Informed consent is obtained by members of the healthcare team or appropriately trained staff with honorary NHS or honorary NHS contracts, in accordance with NHS procedures. Eligible participants are approached with information sheets regarding the study and a consent form. Full explanations are provided and the patient given as much time as they need to make an informed decision about whether or not they would like to donate to research.
    Associated clinical data is stored in NHS information governance compliant systems ensuring data security and confidentiality.

  • Research programme

    The Leeds Neuropathology Research Tissue bank supports research conducted in an active neuro-oncology research setting at The University of Leeds and within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (http://www.braincancer.leeds.ac.uk http://www.leedsneurosurgery.com/about/). Samples are also available, upon approval of application, to researchers external to the University of Leeds.
