Data collection arrangements
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) treats approximately 17000 cancer patients annually, of whom around 9000 receive radiotherapy and 4000 receive chemotherapy as part of their care. We therefore routinely collect\nlarge amounts of valuable data which could be used for research purposes. Stored data includes: diagnosis and tumour staging; some lifestyle information; diagnostic, treatment and follow-up scans; and clinical outcomes, both survival and any treatment toxicities.
Research programme
Our overarching aim is to fully utilise radiotherapy patient data collected in routine clinical practice, to allow the possibility of learning from every patient treated. Clinical radiotherapy databases at LTHT are used for service evaluation and audit purposes. The establishment of LeedsCAT allows the data contained on these databases to be used for research in the field of theragnostics. Theragnostics is the use of large population-based cancer patient data, that aims to develop our understanding of patients’ imaging and treatment characteristics in relation to outcome (e.g. toxicity and survival).
