Research summary
We have developed a tool that can help predict the outcome of total knee replacements. We wish to assess whether this tool is helpful to patients in deciding whether to have a knee replacement. \n\nWe will invite patients referred to a hospital for a knee replacement to participate. Consenting individuals will complete a questionnaire which will be used to predict their outcome from a knee replacement. The outcome prediction, which comes in the form of a graph, will be given to the consultant before they see the patient. It will be used to help the patient decide whether to have a knee replacement. The consultation with the consultant will be video recorded to see how the information is used and the patient and clinician will have an interview with a researcher to find out how useful the prediction tool was. This information will be assessed by a qualitative researcher.
