Research summary
We will follow 1500 patients undergoing major surgery for up to one year monitoring their kidney function. We will compare patients who develop signs of acute kidney injury after surgery to similar patients without apparent kidney injury using standard and more sophisticated tests of kidney function. This research will accurately determine how common acute kidney injury is after major surgery and its long-term consequences for patients' kidney function, general health and well-being.
