Research summary
This study will use blood samples collected from a previously REC-approved clinical trial investigating the metabolic effects of ketogenic diet interventions and ketone exposure.
The original study aimed to understand how ketogenic diets and ketone supplements influence biological pathways linked to obesity-related disease risk. Blood samples collected during the trial were planned for molecular analyses to investigate metabolic responses to the dietary interventions.
In this study, the previously collected samples will be used for additional laboratory analyses to further explore the biological mechanisms underlying these responses. In particular, the research will examine immune and metabolic processes in blood and immune cells to better understand how ketogenic interventions may influence pathways related to cardiometabolic health and cancer risk.
These analyses will provide further insight into how ketogenic diets and ketone exposure affect human biology and may help inform strategies to reduce the risk of obesity-associated diseases.
