Research summary
This will be a 2 stage study to evaluate the feasibility of use of laryngeal trans-cutaneous ultrasound (TLUS)in the assessment of inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO).
Stage one will involve Healthy Volunteers and stage two will involve patients referred to our Tertiary referral service all as usual care undergo a diagnostic video laryngoscopy to assess vocal fold movement. ILO is an inappropriate narrowing of the vocal cords on breathing in, it can cause significant breathing difficulties.Accessibility to video-laryngoscopy is limited outside of a specialist centre, and out of hours.
This study aims to evaluate if TLUS can be a useful tool in the assessment of the abnormal vocal fold movements seen in ILO.REC name
