Research summary
Patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) can be treated by either percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) or open revascularisation surgery. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is used to assess the effect of treatment, but only shows re-establishment of blood flow in the main arteries and large side branches of the lower extremities and feet. On DSA, critical blood flow to the microcirculation of the actual ischemic target tissue is not visible. There is no available routine accurate method of monitoring revascularization of the microcirculation.
Since tissue temperature reflects blood perfusion, we hypothesize that infrared thermography would be to show differences in feet reperfusion and might have the potential to be used as a monitoring tool of microcirculation.REC name
