Research summary
The aim of this research is to gain a greater understanding of the lived experience of relationships whilst adjusting to living with chronic lower back pain. The study will have an Interpretative Phenomenological Design (IPA)as it will enable to gather rich data regarding the participants experience. It is hoped that the findings have practical implications for psychologists and other professionals working with individuals with chronic lower back pain and possibly in broader contexts. It may be able to directly inform practice or inform future directions for research.
The study will be conducted within North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, participants will be recruited from the Chronic Pain Service. Participants will be females 18-65 years who have experienced chronic lower back pain for 12 months or more who do not meet the exclusion criteria. Participants will be identified via the service (the researcher will not have access to patient records) and subsequently contacted via letter (Please see Appendix C and D). Participants will be required to attend one approximately 50-60 minute interview at the chronic pain service which they will be familiar with, they will also have been asked in the letter to bring along three objects (see appendix C and D).
