Research summary
This study aims to understand how the tumour microenvironment is altered in rhabdomyosarcoma following therapy and identify biological pathways susceptible to therapeutic intervention.
The study will use surplus tissue (taken previously for diagnosis and treatment that is stored in NHS histopathology departments) from children diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. Samples taken from before and after treatment in each patient will be examined by a range of laboratory techniques to study gene and protein expression. The results will be correlated with anonymous clinical information about the patient's disease, treatment and outcome.
The results of this work will be validated and explored using in vitro and in vivo cell lines and experimental cancer models.
