Research summary
This Research will use cord blood, cord tissue, placenta, and adult peripheral blood for the isolation of progenitor cells. Progenitor cells are rare and special cells. We have demonstrated that they can be used to study the formation of new blood vessels. This is related to basic science and is also of clinical relevance since new blood vessel formation is compromised in various diseases such as heart disease and diabetic complications. This Project will study the basic biology of progenitor cells and their potential use as cell therapies.
