  • Research summary

We are seeking approval for a specific piece of research using data collected by the University Hospitals Southampton Emergency Department (ED) to enable them to better understand the operational impacts of the current Covid-19 outbreak. This project will focus on the outcomes of suspected Covid-19 patients and recent emergency department activity.\n\nThe study will be an entirely retrospective study and data will include patient observations (e.g., blood pressure), patient laboratory tests (e.g., blood tests), patient information (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity) and episode information (e.g., date of episode, duration of episode). The primary aim will be to perform insight analytics about the usage of the emergency department during its Covid-19 response. Answering questions such as: How long do suspected Covid-19 cases stay in ICU? At what times of day is the ED busiest and how is this changing with time?\n\nAny results found will be presented directly to clinical staff at the UHS ED to allow them to adapt their Covid-19 response.
