  • Research summary

We want to determine if specific biomarkers and therapeutic targets can be elicited through comparing multiple bio-specimens of patients with and without (controls) pathologies affecting women’s health.
Having the opportunity to compare multiple bio-specimens of women with and without (controls) pathologies will improve the understanding of the pathophysiological processes behind benign and malignant diseases, allowing for the development of novel clinically applicable diagnostic tests and specific therapies.
Specimens from patients over 18 years of age would be eligible for this planned study, who already have their bio specimens stored in the Liverpool Womens Hospital tissue bank. All tissues and bodily fluid collected from eligible patients could be useful as biomarkers in the female physiological and pathological processes and would be included.
The studies will be conducted at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital using the biospecimens collected at Liverpool Women`s Research Tissue Bank (LWRTB; REC reference: 09/H1002/67+5) which holds an extensive and valuable collection of biospecimens used for research groups investigating pregnancy, labour and its complications as well as other common (eg endometriosis) and life threatening (endometrial cancer) complications affecting the female reproductive system.
This current proposal initially is to study these bio-specimens for 5 years and will be subjected to review after this term.
