  • Research summary

The study aims to identify the underlying genetic alterations that may lead to the development of gynaecological cancers and influence recurrence of disease. This longitudinal clinical study will recruit patients with gynaecological cancer, alongside patients with pre-malignant and benign conditions as well as healthy volunteers. By analysing tissue and blood samples, the study aims to detect genetic mutations and changes in the primary tumour, metastatic tumour deposits, recurrent tumours and also in pre-malignant and normal tissues. The study will identify tumour markers that can be utilised to detect the development of early cancers and predict tumour recurrence. This will allow clinicians to initiate treatment in a timely manner, before tumours have progressed to advanced stage and metastatic disease. Understanding the genetic alterations will enable us to develop a predictive molecular algorithm to quantify and predict the risks of gynaecological cancer progression and recurrence
