  • Research summary

To assess the effect of interrupting prolonged sitting compared with repeated standing on blood sugar over a 24 hour period using Continuous Glucose Monitoring. We will particularly be assessing the changes following breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Each meal will be a standard mixed carbohydrate/fat/protein meal.
The secondary objectives are to obtain data to inform the development of two further trials investigating
1)the best form of physical activity ie repeated standing, prolonged standing or light activity in improving glycaemic excursions over a 7 day period in type 2 diabetes.
2)the effects of the duration of continuous bouts of sedentary behaviour in in type 2 diabetes.
