Research summary
Renal diseases may often run in families, indicating an underlying inherited cause. Sometimes the renal disease leads to family members losing kidney function completely without the cause being identified. We wish to study patients with kidney disease whom have a family history of kidney disease in order to diagnose genetic conditions. The aim of this study is to collect simple information regarding the pattern of kidney problems in a family and the age it affects people and study the DNA, using a simple blood test, from affected family members in order to make a genetic diagnosis. In this way, we will identify the genetic underlying causes of inherited kidney disease.
