Research summary
Most people with asthma take an inhaled steroid to control their symptoms. A common question in clinical practice is whether more steroid would be of benefit? To determine this patients are often prescribed a month of high dose inhaled steroids or a two-week course of oral steroids to document steroid responsiveness. The purpose of this study is to describe the features of responders and non-responders to an increased dose of steroid and establish if it is possible to identify patients who will and will not respond to increased doses of steroids in terms of clinical measurements and biomarkers.
