Research summary
We wish to define what the normal range for blood sugar is in labour for women without diabetes. This is to enable us to establish more permissive limits for blood sugar control in women affected by diabetes in pregnancy, which could allow labour with less intervention and better outcomes.
Women expecting to deliver their babies vaginally at Queen Charlott'e and Chelsea hospital will be asked to wear contiuous glucose monitors before, during and after their labour, usually for around 3 days.
This research is funded by an Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Divisional research grant and will be conducted by a research midwife and NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital.
