Research summary
There has been intense public and political scrutiny of surgical vaginal mesh implants for SUI and prolapse leading to a 'pause for vigilance' in NI & England July 2018. Some women with complications of vaginal mesh implants have felt misunderstood and had difficulty having their concerns heard. Other women seeking surgical treatment for SUI might be concerned listening to media reports. Women who have previously had a vaginal mesh implant who are experiencing concerns will be interviewed. Women will have been referred to mesh complications clinic in BHSCT. The interviews will be undertaken by an experienced qualitative researcher and themes explored using patients own words. It is estimated that between 10-15 interviews will be required. The information obtained from the interviews will form part of the PHA quality improvement work for surgical management of urinary continence and prolapse.
