Research summary
This implementation study aims to evaluate the effectiveness for trained healthcare professionals (HCPs) to deliver the PRIORITY intervention in routine NHS diabetes services. The PRIORITY intervention is a manualised, evidence-based parent-focused programme designed to prevent type 1 diabetes-related disordered eating (T1DE) in children and young people (CYP) aged 11-14 years. Following successful development and feasibility testing of both the intervention and associated eLearning modules, this study will assess whether HCPs can implement PRIORITY with fidelity and effectiveness comparable to the original research trial. Using a pre-post implementation design at multiple NHS paediatric diabetes sites, we will evaluate: (1) fidelity of intervention delivery by HCPs; and (2) parent outcomes including disordered eating symptoms, parental diabetes-related distress, wellbeing, and glycaemic control. This work is critical for establishing the scalability of PRIORITY and will inform a larger clinical and cost-effectiveness trial.
