Research summary
The view of knee osteoarthritis has evolved from a focus on cartilage to a disease of the whole joint, with contributions from bone, cartilage, meniscus, ligaments and joint capsule. Little, however, has been done to examine their interactions in normal and pathological functioning of the joint. Here, we aim to link the structural changes in the different tissues of the joint in patients with early symptomatic and non-symptomatic disease at physiological levels of hierarchy to elucidate the disease process and highlight targets for early therapy.
This is a laboratory study making use of cadaveric tissues to answer the study question.
We will use donor cadaveric knee joint tissues from the Department of Physiology Anatomy and Genetics (DPAG), University of Oxford.REC name
