Research summary
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) affects 1/100 people in the UK and is recognised as a syndrome that impacts social and emotional development, and is characterised by rigid patterns of behaviour and thinking. Alongside contending with the core features of the condition, it is well established that children and adults with ASC have a higher risk of needing treatment for mental health issues. What is less clear is how those affected experience mental health services, specifically inpatient services. To this end, the current research proposal advances a study that can help health professionals understand the thoughts and feelings of people with ASC in relation to their mental health inpatient experiences; impacting the development of patient centred services.
