Research summary
Paediatric emergency department attendance is on the increase. Many patients, parents and carers attend for a problem or to answer a question that is not an accident or emergency. Currently the only information available to them tends to be information leaflets that often go unread. Background research was undertaken in a busy tertiary children’s department to find a focus for the creation of information videos on common conditions and problems that could be shown within the emergency department waiting room. This research will use patient user groups (younger child, older child and adult) to form a focus group to look at the validity and for feedback of a prototype video that has been produced. This information will then be analysed to look for common themes and with the aim to produce a series of videos that will be useful for use in the waiting areas of this children’s emergency department.
