Research summary
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of acute lower respiratory infections in infants worldwide, causing 3.4 million hospitalisations and up to 199000 deaths per year. Current treatment is largely supportive.
The INFORM RSV study will collect RSV samples from a global population of children aged <5 years. The samples will be used to identify and sequence the different virus subtypes to improve our understanding of RSV and potentially guide new therapies.
