Research summary
Previous research has indicated that people, eligible to receive the influenza vaccine, often do not make ‘simple’ decisions whether to have or not to have the vaccine. Rather, peoples’ decision depends on whether they believe themselves as risk from developing influenza; the seriousness of influenza itself; vaccination safety; along with social influences, age, gender, and professional role.
Over a period of 6 months (post-ethical approval) in Shropshire and Herefordshire, this research will comprise four focus groups, with health and social care professionals; pregnant women; over 65s; and people with long-term conditions. Focus groups will be explored and analysed to ascertain participants’ knowledge, experiences, and perceptions of the influenza vaccine, with a view to influencing the design and development of influenza vaccination programmes.
