  • Research summary

The purpose of this elective project is to verify if the Oral Health Related Quality of Life scale (QHRQol) can be related to periodontal status and whether this is influenced by periodontal care.
Periodontitis is described as an inflammatory disease of the periodontium with moderate progressive loss of the tooth supporting structures such as the alveolar bone and the surrounding connective tissue. The most commonly encountered diagnosis in General Dental Practice is chronic periondontal disease therefore the OHRQol scale will be used to measure the perceptions of the periodontal patients with chronic disease. The perceptions of patients will then be compared to other patient factors such as having a systemic disease (diabetes), education, attendance, diagnostic information and periodontal treatment undertaken.
