Research summary
Recent studies reported elevated platelets and inflammatory markers are associated with poor prognostic outcomes among patients with solid tumours. We would like to establish if these blood markers can be used as predictors of overall survival among head and neck cancer patients. We plan to review the pre-treatment blood results of all head and neck cancer patients seen at Hywel Dda University Health Board hospitals from 2000 to 2013 and correlate with disease recurrence and 5-year survival. Once established, these potential prognostic factors can help patients and clinicians in deciding the appropriate treatment option on individual cases.
