Research summary
This is an interview based study of patients with poorly controlled asthma who are treated at Difficult Asthma Clinic in the Belfast City Hospital. Approximately 30 subjects from 3 groups over a 1 year period will be recruited. The groups are as follows; inhaled steroid responsive and stable, inhaled steroid responsive and unstable and inhaled steroid non-responsive. We have determined these groups from a FeNO (Exhaled Nitric Oxide) test in the Difficult Asthma Clinic in the Belfast City Hospital which used remote technology to record accuhaler inhalations and measure FeNO.
The study will compare patient's perceptions on the use of inhaler compliance assessment (INCA) in symptomatically uncontrolled asthma and who have completed one week FeNO suppression testing and one month prolonged monitoring. The schedule of questions will focus on the patients past and present adherence and what effect the FeNO suppression testing and prolonged monitoring had on their adherence, if any.
